Something By You and Than Average

This Week's Note

Something By You

Collaboration (broadly speaking) is a good thing that is in many ways essential to the creative journey. Unfortunately, collaboration can at times leave a lot to be desired.

The trope of the frustrated artist (who doesn't play well with others) exists not because we’re lone pines who can’t (or refuse to) socialize, but because we don’t adequately exercise our creative fidelity. When we find collaborative work frustrating it's often the case that the expressive individualized artist side of our brain hasn’t been indulged and is seeking to scratch the itch. It seems like when we don’t do enough work by ourselves, we start to steal work that was intended for, and requires the expertise of someone else.

Thankfully, the solution is simple. All we need to do is to prioritize and follow through on our felt need to make more things by ourselves. When we realize that something green-lit by our own sense of taste and values is what we’re looking for, we can engage in collaborative projects without feeling like we’re being handed the short end of the creative stick.

A simple, welcoming website that tells you how average you are (or aren't) that is certainly worth a visit. Take a look and maybe compare and contrast with a friend.
