What Happened To Good Enough and A Really Good Live Album
This Week's Note
What Happened to Good Enough
While I love well made artifacts and finely crafted concepts, I’m an established antagonist of perfection. Often, I see perfection as an impossible outcome, an unworthy pursuit, and an unreliable motivator.
But this piece isn’t about the impossibility of perfection, it’s about being “good enough.” Specifically, being good enough to solve a contextualized and specific problem. Good enough is becoming more important because we are increasingly viewing perfection as the only enviable outcome, and now (more than ever) it seems we are disinclined to give our ideas the time they deserve.
When an honest attempt, or intrinsic value are removed from being enviable results there’s little room for enjoying the journey or even developing our skill.
When it comes to creativity, there is no perfection, there is only good enough. God enough for your first try, good enough to show your friends, good enough for a random social media post, good enough for this month’s release.
Perfection is a terrible master. To become liberated we need only accept the freedom of being good enough, and rely on our current tastes, needs, and achievable outcomes to fill in the blanks.
This Week's Resource
A really good live album from Vulfpeck, an indie funk band that makes incredibly interesting yet incredibly listenable music. This resource made the list not to boast my eclectic music taste, but because I really think what Vulfpeck have made can inspire anyone.
